FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q:When is registration held? A: Registration for the fall season typically opens at the end of the spring season (May) and runs through tryouts in September and spring registration opens at the end of the fall season (November) and runs through tryouts in January. All players, new and returning, are required to register online.
Q:What is included in the registration fee? A: In the fall the registration fee pays for a uniform shirt, a medal and insurance for each player. In the spring registration pays for a full uniform (shirt, pants, & socks), trophy, and insurance for each player. Money from both registrations also pays for umpires, field maintenance, utilities, and other league operation expenses.
Q: What equipment do players need? A: Players need a glove, batting helmet with face guard (strap optional), and cleats. It is also recommended that players have their own bat. Some players choose to wear a defensive face mask but this equipment is optional. The league provides softballs and catcher's gear.
Q:How many games are played during the season? A: A typical fall season consists of 10 games, while there are usually 12 regular season games in the spring. Both the fall and spring seasons usually begin with beginning of season tournaments and conclude with an end-of-season tournament. During the spring season, teams that qualify may also compete in the Houston Metro Rec tournament.
Q:On which days of the week are practice/games held? A: Practices are usually held on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday evenings (typically between 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm), but these days could vary depending on the number of teams we have per season. Extra practices may be scheduled by coaches as needed but are not mandatory. Games are held on Tuesday or Thursday (between 5:30 – 8:30 pm) and Saturday (between 8:00 am -2:00 pm)
Q:How are teams formed? A: Players are evaluated by coaches prior to the season and all players who participate in tryouts are placed in the draft for a team. Teams in the 8U-Mixed divisions are then formed by a draft selection process (see the Registration, Evaluations, & Draft Standing Rule for details). Players who do not attend tryouts as well as players participating in the K-Ball and 6U divisions are selected based on a hat pick process. The goal in forming teams is to balance the talent as much as possible so that all teams are competitive. EVERYONE makes the team!
Q:Can I request a certain coach or that my daughter be placed on a team with a friend? A: Special requests may be indicated on the online registration form; however, only sibling requests are guaranteed.
Q:Can my daughter play up or down a division? A: Players must play in their age division unless they qualify to play up (see the Registration, Evaluations, & Draft Standing Rule for details). Players are not permitted to play down in a younger age division.
Q:What happens if a practice/game is rained out? A: Practices that are rained out are not rescheduled. Rained out games are rescheduled at the earliest possible date. In some cases, practices may be canceled in order to make up a missed game. Coaches will notify their teams in the event of a rain out.
Q:Where are practices/games held? A: All SAYS games and practices are held at Bayer Park (24811 W Hardy Rd, Spring, TX 77373).
Q:Is there a league fundraiser? A: SAYS is a completely self-funded, non-profit charitable organization. All operation expenses are paid through registration fees, sponsorships, and fundraisers. In order to provide the best playing experience possible, we encourage families to participate in our fundraising efforts. These include the Opening Day raffle and silent auction, mandatory team sales, as well as, spirit nights held throughout the season at local restaurants. SAYS welcomes any and all monetary and in-kind donations. (Donations are tax deductible.)
Q:Can I volunteer to help out the league? A: Yes! SAYS is an all-volunteer organization. We need dedicated individuals to fill many roles including coaches/assistant coaches, Team Mom/Dad, scorekeepers/scoreboard operators, field maintenance workers, fundraisers, and board members. We will have open practices prior to tryouts for any Spring 2018 SAYS player on Sunday, April 15th at the following times
6u - noon on red
8u- 1 pm on black
10u - 9 am on black
12u - 9 am on blue
Mixed - on 4/29 only Time TBD
There will also be an additional open practice on 4/29 divisions an Time TBD!
Reminder open practices are not a requirement to tryout, but offer the coaches an opportunity to work with players who are interested!

We will be at the park Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 for uniform fitting. Please stop by the field and verify uniform sizes. Uniforms will be ordered on Thursday morning.

We are currently waiting for more fundraiser candy to arrive, so we are only able to accept buyouts at this time. Reminder the candy is $2/bar ($60/per box) or $30 buyout. If you have already sold your candy, please turn in your money.
Opening Day is February 17th, and there will be an opening day tournament! more information to follow.
Just a reminder Impact Gold will be hosting a FREE softball clinic at the park this Saturday, September 16, 2017 for 6u, 8u,10u,12u & Mixed SAYS divisions.
This is an excellent opportunity to get your player's ready for the upcoming Fall season. The camp is for ALL skill levels and will be working on hitting, pitching and fielding drills. We encourage you to bring your players out!
